SCO15 Traffic:-
We are the specialist roads policing unit.
We deal with all and any road traffic crimes no matter how small or big.
We work very closely with the very well known Trojan unit (Armed response)
It is a very demanding role to play in the front line of policing as we have a very busy job.
To be apart of the roads policing unit we expect:
§ a very good physical standard
§ very good reactions
§ a calm collected attitude
§ a keen hard worker
§ you to be able to keep up a high standard of communication
§ a keen eye for detail
§ a positive attitude to safety
§ maturity when dealing with difficult members of the public
We are very well known for handling dangerous and fast pursuits as well as horrific RTC road traffic collisions. We have a dangerous but rewarding part to play in the day to day policing of the roads in polite bay and it is up to us to keep those roads safe.
MAIN DUTIES
§ road closure or diversions
§ traffic management
§ speed enforcement
§ RTC management
§ Traffic stops
§ Road policing pursuits
§ Road escorts for anything from wide loads to VIP’s
§ Maintaining road safety at all times
§ Being a roads support team for other divisions
Aims and objectives
§ Deny criminals use of the roads by enforcing the law
§ Reduce road casualties
§ Tackle the threat of terrorism
§ Reduce anti-social use of the roads
§ Enhance public confidence and reassurance by patrolling the roads
§ Attend and investigate all fatal collisions
Intelligence-led operations use a combination of enforcement and education to focus on issues such as:
§ Antisocial and criminal use of vehicles on the roads
§ Drink and Drug driving
§ Speeding
§ Seizing uninsured and unlicensed vehicles
§ Motorcycle, moped and scooter safety
§ Commercial vehicles and the transportation of hazardous materials
§ Un-roadworthy and dangerous vehicles
§ Road safety at schools
Traffic officers often detect wanted criminals and those committing other offences as part of routine traffic stops.
The overall objective is safety to the community! It is of the up most importance to keep all road crime and road related incidents down to a minimum. Obviously criminals are a everyday occurrence so it is up to us to deal with all incidents in a up most professional manner.
